Amy is off Saturday and Sunday and I am off Tuesday and Wednesday... With at least 2 week notice I can put in for a vacation day on either Saturday or Sunday...then it has to be approved...which is semi-automatic unless the person filling in for me is already off for a vacation thingy...Amy and I have several vacation periods scheduled together for this year...the first of which is in May...somewhere in the first two weeks of the month if I remember
Let's put this in another perspective...The OEM tires were 265/70/17...31.6 inches tall7.3 inch sidewall10.43 section widthMy first Nittos were 285/60/18 on 18X9 rims31.4 inches tall6.73 inch sidewall11.22 section widthBigger and wider rim, shorter sidewall and wider cross section...there was a significant increase in performance just from spec change...there was also a significant stiffness in sidewall not only from being shorter but also additional plys in the sidewall...handling was significantly improved...the OEM tires flexed a lot and left you wondering in every corner...The new Nittos 325/60/1833 inches tall7.67 sidewall 13.0 cross sectionThe new sidewall is only 0.37 taller than the OEM and about 0.94 taller than my first Nittos...The new cross section however is 1.78 wider...that's a significant increase in section width and helps a lot in stability...even though the sidewall increase is 0.94This is where the added plys come into play...yes it's an LT tire...but the added plys give sidewall rigidity as well and this translates into cornering stability...So you have to factor all these things in when making a decision on how high you want to go...what tires you are going to run...the final gear ratio affect of running bigger tires...engine rpm at freeway speed (MPG factor)...etc etc...So far I am seeing a significant increase in MPG according to my DIC...I'm not going to post until I have a lot more miles...but it looks promising...So far, I am very pleased with all the pre research and number crunching I did...the results are at least as good as what the numbers said to expect...
I think I forgot to mention I selected the shortest lift kit made...well I picked one of the 2 shortest made...I had no intention of building a Monster truck...nor was I going to build an offroad doall/endall...that is better left for short wheel base and significantly lighter platforms...I simply wanted some more ground clearance and better approach and departure angles on a 19+ foot long / 6000+ pound platform for dirt trail and fire road type stuff Amy and I encounter when camping and so forth...The result is exactly what I was looking for in application and appearance
Isn't vacation time greeeeeeeeeeeeat!!!Ordered the GM Trans Oil Cooler kit yesterday morning...came in and got it installed today...No pics...everyone knows what they look like....$75.00+tax for the kit (I got friends)...and my time...worth every penny...love it Oh, and a quart of tranny fluid...4 bucks for the good shid...
What?! I thought you had this mod already!
Quote from: RoarinRow on May 11, 2010 What?! I thought you had this mod already! I never really had a need for it till now...never towed...never saw tranny temps over 150...But with the bigger tires...now was the perfect time to do it before the warm temps start coming this summer...
How bout the exhaust mod. How's that going? You were thinking of Flowmaster 70s and the pipe through the cladding mod.
Hey, Cliff, I'm looking forward to seeing your new red booties.
